When our day ends tomorrow, we will be setting out on an unknown journey and unknown path. We Have all taken or will be taking a leap of faith. That first step onto this road might be hard. Maybe our first step will be in pothole. If we have learned nothing else, I hope we have learned that our education and our students' educations are a journey. We are going to get hungry on the road. we are going to thirst. Some might run out of gas and have to call AAA. Some might have a GPS that will guide them the whole way. I hope everyone has said out loud or to themselves quietly, "Ferb, I know what we're going to do today!"
I hope you enjoy my Vlog tonight. I would like to correct definitions of terms on two counts that I used in my Vlog. Given the location of my Vlog tonight, I was on edge that I might get caught, so I wasn't speaking clearly. The first term I referred to was Semper Reformanda... a constant, continuing self-critique. The other is the term Kaizen. Jim Stinger brought it up in conversation and defined it as "constant tiny improvements."

With today's post, I have decided to incorporate three aspects of our day. #1 a reaction to the Stimming article(starring Molly Wasson), #2 a real life role play with Molly Wasson and Samantha Wasson, and a role play with some probing questions, starring Molly Wasson and Samantha Wasson. I hope you enjoy a different perspective on my Vlog.
Because Steve and Ron thought a 747 was landing in my back yard while posting the other night, I tried a different approach with my latest outdoor post.
Thursday was a great day at the "Institute." The conversations were so authentic. The size of the group is ideal to have open, honest, intimate and authentic conversations.
In regards to our yet to be named cohort, today was a breakthrough day. everything seemed to come together. We had a moment sitting out on the patio where we were all in sync. It was awesome. A rough scaffolding of our presentation was erected. Who knows what it will look like when completed, but the plans were laid out for construction.
I hope everyone enjoys the weekend. The Wassons had a somewhat trying Friday night that began with a scooter ride and ended with a trip to the emergency room for our 8 year old, Molly. She has a buckle fracture of her Ulna and Radius. A hard cast will go on Wednesday, three days before a two week trip to the beach! Hopefully she can get a waterproof cast.........
I'm sorry. Allergies are getting the better of me in this Vlog post. Today was an interesting day for our cohort group. I think we have been getting bogged down in the swamp of terminology and vernacular. I think we have found a project. The idea of a standard based report card. We don't have a set in stone essential question(s). The gears are churning though. Tomorrow is another day.
The two references I make in my Vlog are Richard DuFour's article and Developing Standards-Based Report Cards by Thomas R. Guskey.
I learned a lot today. The one thing that I learned, but I have secretly known for a long time is that Malvern is full of amazing, great and creative people. The whole concept of this summer institute is a great idea. We have so many outstanding minds that we could utilize the resources here to handle our professional development. I want to break down the walls that separate our classrooms. I can't remember when laptop computers were introduced at Malvern, but I do know that was the day that a tremendous amount of collaboration was lost on this campus. Everyone went and found his or her own space. A large part of the face to face collaboration was lost. I feel and believe that today part of that loss was restored.
I am going to think outside the box a little and try to do a Vlog(video blog). I hope you enjoy.
